Joyce A. Tynes
SMITHFIELD—Joyce Ann Hill Tynes, 55, died May 30, 2009, at Sentara Obici Hospital.
She was a native of Isle of Wight County.
“Sister” as she was affectionately called by her family was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Smithfield, and a member of the pastor’s aid ministry.
She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Bethlehem Chapter #10.
Mrs. Tynes was a 1971 graduate of Windsor High School. She was employed with G.E. for 10 years and Little’s Supermarket for seven years.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Gracie M. Hill; and a brother, Edward J. Hill.
Joyce was a quiet, loving family person. She was a woman of few words and a big smile.
Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Nathan E. Tynes; a loving daughter, Aneshia Y. Tynes; a sister, Barbara J. Winslow (Edward); a foster sister, Mary Gwaltney; her mother-in-law, Otelia G. Tynes; brother-in-law, DeVaughn Tynes (Birdie); three nieces, LaVonne, Valencia, Natalie Tynes; a goddaughter, Diamond Tynes; a godson, Timothy Jones; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A service of triumph was conducted at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Smithfield, by Dr. Eldridge Lucas.
The burial followed in the church cemetery.
Service of comfort was provided by Shivers Funeral Chapel, Smithfield.
