CARROLLTON—Ethel Juanita Taylor Wheeler, 78, died May 21, 2009, after a lengthy illness, surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Wheeler was born in Northampton County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Gertrude Davis Taylor, and was the wife of the late Vernon Lee Wheeler.
A resident of Isle of Wight for most her life, she was a school bus driver for the county school system for more than 20 years.
She enjoyed gardening and her flower garden. She was a member of Battery Park Baptist Church. She was a beloved wife, and devoted mother, grandmother, and sister.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Ethel is preceded in death by her son, W. Bernell Wheeler; a sister, Ida Mae T. Allen; and a brother, Lewis F. Taylor.
Survivors include her daughter, Trudy W. Settles and husband Dennis of Chester: three sons, Larry Keith Wheeler and wife Teresa, Michael Wheeler and companion Kim Keener and Jerry Wheeler and companion, Darlene Bergstrom, all of Carrollton; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by four sisters, Martha T. Griffith and husband James of Franklin, Winnie T. Davis of Jackson, N.C., Delores T. Hoggard and husband Thomas of Lewiston, N.C., and Camilla T. Cannon of Seaboard, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Joyce F. Taylor, of Seaboard, N.C. and numerous nieces and nephews.
A service celebrating her life was conducted Sunday in Colonial Funeral Home, with the Rev. C. Alan Hogge officiating.
The interment followed in St. Luke’s Memorial Park.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Carrollton Volunteer Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 77, Carrollton, VA 23314.
Arrangements were in the care of Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield.
