Janita E. Bond
NORFOLK—Janita E. Bond died April 27, 2009.
She was born to the late John Claude and Mary Lizzie Edwards in Franklin.
At the tender age of 15, she graduated from Hayden High School, Franklin, in 1955 and later graduated from Norfolk State University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
She started her federal career with the Department of the Navy, culminating with her retirement more than 35 years later with the Department of the Treasury – U.S. Customs Agency.
Mrs. Bond was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated and the Les Gemmes Society.
She was a board member of the Southside Boys and Girls Club and a member of the Poplar Halls Civic League.
She was predeceased by her husband, John Henry Bond; and a son, Jonathan Bond.
Survivors include two sons, Jeffrey E. Bond of Nashville and Jerald Bond (Kimberly) of Silver Spring, Md.; a daughter, Millicent Scott of Atlanta; brother, John C. Edwards Jr.; two grandchildren, Alexandria Janice and Jeffrey Maxwell Bond; two nieces, Rhonda and Lori Nelson; and a host of relatives and friends.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in New Calvary Baptist Church, 800 E. Virginia Beach Blvd.
Entombment will be at Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake.
Family and friends will assemble at 434 Beacon Hill Circle one hour prior to service for procession to the church.
A wake will be will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. today in Metropolitan Funeral Service, Berkley Ave. Chapel.
