WAVERLY—Mary Kathleen Thomas Graves died April 26, 2009, at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg.
She was born Jan. 12, 1950, to Lucy Thomas and to the late Nelson Thomas.
She graduated from Sussex Central High School and later was employed as a mental health care provider. She worked in Sussex, Greensville and Emporia and Chips Convenience Store for more than 20 years.
Ms. Graves was a member of First Baptist Church, Waverly, where she served as a church treasurer, on the Hospitality Committee, was the choir president, on the Missionary Committee, Willing Workers Committee and on the Pulpit Committee.
Survivors include Herbert Graves; her two sons, Ronnell Graves (Tekeyshia) of Detroit and Herbert Graves Jr. of Petersburg; her daughter, Yolanda Proctor (Corey) of Waverly; one brother, Robert Thomas (Ida) of California; one sister, Elaine Dobie (Josiah) of Waverly; five grandchildren, Nia, Mya, Ava, Zori and a devoted Dominic; four aunts, Thelma Thomas, Helen Garrett, Louise Barrow and a devoted Addie Parham, two uncles; David Bolling and a devoted Oscar Parham; two devoted cousins, Audrey Bain and Curtis Bolling; a host of cousins other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Waverly, with the Rev. Dr. Samuel Robinson officiating.
The interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will assemble at the residence one hour prior to the service.
