Virginia G. Hammond
WAKEFIELD—Virginia Gray Hammond, 69, a former resident of Wakefield, died March 19, 2009.
Born in Gauley Mills, W.Va. on Jan. 9, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Frank H. and Ava Clevenger Gray.
She was the widow of Leodice Glen Hammond.
She retired from Southside Regional Medical Center after serving as a certified nursing assistant for 13 years.
Mrs. Hammond was a member of Wakefield Baptist Church and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, she is survived by her daughter, Teresa Hammond Savedge, and husband, James; two sisters, Wanda G. Hinkle (Jake Hinkle) and Nina G. Carroll; two granddaughters, Mia Nichole Savedge and Skye Logan Savedge; two sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held Monday at the J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Purviance Chapel in Wakefield by the Revs. Jim Kerr and Connie Gibbs-Morris.
Burial followed in the Wakefield Cemetery and the family will have a reception at the Wakefield Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
