Winifred M. Peebles
WAKEFIELD—Winifred Morris “Billie” Peebles, 93, a former resident of Wakefield, died March 20, 2009, at Lakewood Manor, where she had lived for the past 13 years.
Mrs. Peebles was born in Wakefield on Aug. 27, 1915 and was the daughter of the late Madeline and Wilbur Alvyn Morris.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Benjamin Peebles and her sister Ann Morris Richardson.
Survivors include three children, Madeline Peebles Brown and husband Rodney, Patricia Peebles Thaxton and husband H.C., all of Richmond, and Robert Alvyn Peebles and wife Mary Jane of Louisville, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Mark Peebles Brown and wife Guen of Mercer Island, Wash., Chandler Thaxton Klevana and husband Leighton of Richmond and William Eppes Thaxton of Brooklyn, N.Y.; four greatgrandchildren, Elizabeth and Leighton Klevana and Stuart and Jack Brown; and two step-sisters, Jean Morris Foster and Sandra Morris Taylor.
She graduated from Wakefield High School and attended Radford College (now Radford University).
She was a lifelong member of the Wakefield United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir for many years.
She was a former member and past president of the Wakefield Woman’s Club.
She was a member of the Thomas Rolfe Branch, APVA, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Daughters of the Confederacy and the Mayflower Society.
A graveside service will be held in the Wakefield Cemetery Monday at 2 p.m.
There will be a memorial service at Lakewood Manor on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
