EMPORIA—Mary Rook Ferguson, 89, of 1402 Beef Road, died Feb. 9, 2009, at Southern Virginia Regional Medical Center in Emporia.
She was born in Greensville County, the daughter of the late William and Lula Rook.
Mrs. Ferguson as retired from J.P. Stevens Co. She was very active in her church and will be greatly missed.
She was recognized locally as an “Unsung Hero.” She devoted much of her time visiting the sick and shut-ins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Percy W. Ferguson, brother, William L. Rook and sister, Martha Delbridge.
Survivors include two daughters, Lucy F. Monk and husband John of Midlothian and Kay Ferguson of Franklin; four grandchildren, John A. Monk Jr., Kimberly Book, Clay Vick and Jerry Vick; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dallas Rook and Shelton Rook; sisters, Alma Wrenn and Betty Cook, both of Emporia, Katie Wells of McKenney, Vanice Delbridge and Martha Delbridge.
Funeral services were held Feb. 12 at West Tenth Street Church of God, with the Rev. Marvin Wiggins officiating.
Burial followed in Forest Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Brink.
