Betty S. Wilcox
SUFFOLK—Betty Sutterby Wilcox, 89, died Jan. 14, 2009.
She was born in Avon, N.Y., the daughter of the late Frances Fenton Sutterby and Dr. William H. Sutterby.
She was predeceased by her husband, William A. Wilcox.
She served as a 1st lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War II.
She retired as a physical therapist, starting the first physical therapy department in Obici Hospital.
Mrs. Wilcox was a member of West End Baptist Church, the Tuesday Afternoon Book Club and the Suffolk and Tidewater Women’s Golf Associations.
She was active and well loved by her community where she was a member of various civic organizations.
Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Gwynn W. Sutterby of Orlando, Fla., Molly-Jeanne Ballard Wilcox Crow and husband H. Gregg of Suffolk; sons and daughters-in-law, William Michael Wilcox and wife Ashley of Virginia Beach, Robert Mitchell Rawles Wilcox and wife Sabrina of Windsor; grandchildren, Robert, Christy, William II, Silas, Rawles, Sterling and Will; sister, Jeanne Coyne of New York; brother, Francis “Red” Sutterby of Mississippi.
A celebration of life service was to be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Portsmouth Center at Lake Prince Woods with the Rev. Floyd T. “Skip” Irby and Chaplain Mary Henderson officiating.
Friends may join the family following the service for further time of fellowship at Lake Prince Woods.
Burial will be private in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
