James H. Jenkins
COURTLAND—Deacon James H. Jenkins of Governor Darden Road, died Jan. 4, 2009, after a brief illness, at Nansemond Pointe Rehabilitation Center in Suffolk.
Mr. Jenkins was a lifelong resident of Southampton County.
He was the founder and owner of James H. Jenkins and Sons Plumbing and Electric. James was a lifetime member of White Oak Spring Missionary Baptist Church where he served as chairman of the Deacon Board for 42 years.
He was preceded in death by two sons, James Jenkins Jr. and Henry L. Jenkins.
Survivors include his lovely wife of 56 years, Evelyn M. Jenkins; four sons, Leroy (Vernie), Charles (Hope), David (Thelma) and Raymond (Teresa); five daughters, Gloria Jenkins, Evelyn Barnes (Gerald), Brenda Jenkins, Shelia Jenkins and Alice Wyche (Anthony); two sisters, Sweetie Darden and Beadie Rawlings; one brother, Louis Jenkins; 17 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at White Oak Spring Missionary Baptist Church, Delaware Road, Franklin, with the Rev. Eddie Lee Jr. officiating.
The committal and benediction will be in Southview Cemetery.
On the day of service, he will be placed in church for viewing by 11 a.m.
The public is welcomed to view Deacon Jenkins today from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
