James A. Mason
FRANKLIN—James Alvin “Zerb” Mason of Washington Avenue, died Dec. 25, 2008, in his home.
Mr. Mason had been a patient at Southampton Memorial Hospital for many weeks.
The Handsom native was the son of James and Elizabeth Mason born July 29, 1924.
At an early age, James joined St. Luke AME Zion Church where he was a former member of the Usher Board.
In 1988, “Zerb” retired from Union Camp Corporation where he worked for 40 years.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and listening to old gospel favorites, but most of all he found great pleasure in spending quality time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Jewelee Collins Mason, Franklin; three daughters, Juanita Taylor (Sherman), Upper Marlboro, Md., Betty Majette, Franklin and Darleen James (Lenny), Newport News; two sons, Eddie and William Collins, both of Franklin; one sister, Dorothy Adams, fifteen grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A service celebrating his life’s journey will be held today at noon at St. Luke AME Zion Church.
The pastor, the Rev. Kenneth Zollicoffer will deliver the eulogy.
Burial will be in Southampton Memorial Park.
On the day of service, his remains will be placed in church for viewing by 10:30 a.m.
