SUFFOLK—Yolanda T. Wilson, 60, died Dec. 26, 2008, in Hampton Sentara CarePlex.
Mrs. Wilson was born April 9, 1948, in Franklin to George Taylor and Bertha Mae Branch.
She attended St. Francis de Sales in Powhatan, where she was the salutatorian of her class.
Upon graduating from high school, she attended Norfolk State College (University).
She dedicated 31 years of her life as a valued instructional assistant to special needs children in Hampton City Public Schools, and was a wonderful friend to her colleagues.
She was a dedicated member of Bethlehem Christian Church in Suffolk where she was the president and member of the Unity Choir, the Anointed Believers Born to Praise dancing team and founder and director of the Bethlehem Tutorial Program, where she gave of herself to extend her gift with children to her church community.
All who know her will remember her infectious laugh, warm smile and her many side-splitting jokes.
Survivors include her daughters, Davida Harrell-Williams (Jerronn) of Suffolk and Patrice Harrell-Carter (Corey) of Waldorf, Md.; her grandchildren, Brittany, Amir, Taylor, Jeremiah, Haki and Garrett; her parents, Bertha B. Turner and George Taylor; her godmother, Mamie White; dedicated confidant and friends, Helivi and Lula Holland; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends.
Services will be held today at 1 p.m. in Metropolitan Baptist Church, Suffolk, with Pastor Emanuel Myrick Jr. officiating.
Interment will take place at Nansemond Suffolk Cemetery immediately following the service.
The family will receive visitors at the home of her mother at 2607 Riddick Drive, Suffolk, and eldest daughter at 1539 Olde Mill Creek Drive, Suffolk.
Crocker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
