Sidney Cooper

VIRGINIA BEACH—Sidney L. Cooper, 90, of the 6400 block of Auburn Drive, died Dec. 12, 2008.
A native of Bertie County, N.C., he was the son of the late J.H. and Ella Lee Byrd Cooper and husband of Norma Long Cooper.
An Army veteran of World War II, he was a retired ironworker, the oldest living member of the International Association of Ironworkers Local No. 79 and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Virginia Beach, for the past 40 years.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Ronnie L. Cooper of Virginia Beach; two stepdaughters whom he loved dearly, Linda Chaplin and husband Charlie of Chesapeake and Vicki Sue Thompson and husband Ricky of Holland; a granddaughter, Sherry Marrah and her husband Bill; two great-grandchildren, Megan and Rachel Marrah, all of South Carolina; a sister, Claire Marie Wright of Richmond; three stepgranddaughters; five stepgreat-grandchildren; one stepgreat-great-grandchild; and three very special nieces, Frances Disharoon and husband Keith, Virginia Ingram and husband Fred and Rosemary Stratton and husband Jimmy.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Minnie P. Cooper; two sisters, Mabel Wright and Mary Kemp; and two brothers, Jack White and Frank White.
A funeral was held Tuesday in Graham Funeral Home, Greenbrier Chapel, with the Rev. James Baker and Pastor Paul Palumbo officiating.
Burial was in Rosewood Memorial Park.
