FRANKLIN—A 23-year-old Franklin woman was arrested for leaving a 6-month-old and an 8-year-old boy in an unlocked vehicle with the keys in the ignition while at Walmart at 1:16 a.m. on Black Friday, Franklin police said.
Latasha Charlene Boone, 23, of 31264 Brandon St., Franklin, was charged with two counts of felony child neglect and released on her own recognizance.
Police were called to the Armory Drive store on Nov. 23 after someone saw the children alone in the vehicle in the parking lot, said Lt. Tim Whitt.
“The outside temperature at the time was 38 degrees and the interior of the car was cold,” Whitt said.
Police found the mother in the store. They assume she was shopping. Boone was then taken to her vehicle for questioning. She gave no explanation as to why she left the children alone.
“According to the report, she thought we were making a big deal of the situation and it wasn’t that serious,” Whitt said.
After the arrest, social services was notified and the children were released to their grandmother.
