James A. Chapman
SUFFOLK—James Andrew “Jimmy” Chapman of the 5400 block of Godwin Blvd., died Nov. 17, 2008, in Sentara Obici Hospital.
A native of Nansemond County, he was the son of the late Andrew and Lynwood Mann Chapman.
He was predeceased by three brothers-in-law, Willie L. Towns Sr., John W. Scott, Sr. and Ryland M. Myrick Jr.
Mr. Chapman was employed for 44 years at Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a machinist.
He was a member of Abundant Harvest Outreach Ministries in Franklin.
Survivors include one son, James H. Hill of Norfolk; a daughter, Sabrina Stewart of Norfolk; two special adopted sons, Irvin Hill Sr. (wife Alisha) and Hirschler Hill; five sisters, Rosa M. Harris (Elbert) of Portsmouth, Flora E. Chapman, Daisy V. Towns (caregiver), Gwen E. Strickland (Larry), all of Suffolk and Elder Joyce Chapman-Myrick of Franklin; a devoted aunt, Patience E. Porter of Suffolk; a special friend and caregiver, Carolyn Hill; special friends, James Powell, William Powell and Walter L. Jones; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. today at Little Bethel Baptist Church, 6533 Everetts Road in Suffolk , officiated by the Rev. Ronald Goodwin.
Intement will be in Albert G. Horton Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors at 5409 Godwin Boulevard in Suffolk.
