Rosa L. Ruffin
CHESAPEAKE—Rosa Lean Ruffin died Nov. 17, 2008.
Mrs. Ruffin, born to the late Deacon Peter Freeman and Deaconess Cecelia Freeman, spent most of her life in Portsmouth.
She was the widow of the late Deacon Lonnie Ruffin Jr.
She was a member of Saint Mark Missionary Baptist Church where she was active in the Usher’s Ministry until her health failed.
Survivors include her children, Jean Logan (George) of Clinton, Md., Lonnie Ruffin of Portsmouth, Shirley Rivers (James) of Richmond, Simone Thomas (the Rev. Bernard) of Portsmouth, Angela Griffin (Theoplis) of Chesapeake; one brother, Deacon Huron Freeman of Windsor; one aunt, Lendora Whitaker of Norfolk; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; seven sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A homegoing celebration will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, 2714 Frederick Blvd., Portsmouth, where Bishop Curtis E. Edmonds is pastor. The Rev. Bernard Thomas will officiate.
Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at noon today. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Saturday.
The family will receive friends at 2721 Twin Cedar Trail, Chesapeake, and will assemble at 1124 Alcindor Road, Portsmouth, for the procession to the church.
