Glenn R. Blair
FREDERICKSBURG—Glenn R. Blair, 78, died Nov. 15, 2008.
Mr. Blair was born in Sandy Level, Pittsylvania County on March 20, 1930 to Walter and Florence Blair.
He served in the Marine Corps from 1952-1954 and was extremely proud of being a Marine.
He briefly worked at Lane Furniture Company and ran a country store. During a career of 38 years, he worked his way up from a clerk to a manager at Leggett’s Department store. He was a former manager of the Franklin Leggett’s.
He oversaw a successful move and expansion of the Fredericksburg Leggett store from downtown to the Spotsylvania Mall.
During his tenure there, the Fredericksburg Leggett store was repeatedly among the top performing stores of its size. He happily retired in April 1992.
Glenn was a devout Christian and a man of exemplary faith and Christian Love.
He was always a servant to others and loved his Lord with all his heart.
He showed his faith everyday of his blessed life. During his life, he served as a lifetime deacon at Fredericksburg Baptist Church and taught a bible study class for youth for 38 years. Glenn loved to travel, help others, and enjoyed the blessings he was given.
He married his childhood sweetheart, Petty Jean Davis, on Sept. 3, 1948 and enjoyed over 50 years of marriage until her death in 1999.
In 2002, he married Marion Deitz of Fredericksburg.
Survivors include one daughter, Glenda Gotshall and husband Joe of Stafford, and their children Joe Jr. and Karen; his wife, Marion Deitz Blair; a sister, Barbara Reynolds and husband Blair of Chatham; a brother, Marshall Blair of Penhook; stepdaughter, Susan Hansen and husband Dan of Fredericksburg and their daughters Kindell and Brooke; stepson, Stephen Deitz of Boston; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Fredericksburg Baptist Church with the Revs. J. Larry Haun, Patti English, and Norman Bennett officiating.
Entombment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, is handling arrangements.
