John L. Jones
FRANKLIN—John Louis Jones of Bank Street, died Nov. 12, 2008, in Southampton Memorial Hospital.
On Nov. 22, 1908, he was born in Southampton County, to Edward and Cassie Tate Jones.
At an early age, he joined New Mount Zion Baptist Church and remained faithful for more than 60 years.
Mr. Jones was married to Corrine Chambliss Jones for 66 years and to this union two daughters were born.
With more than 30 years service, he retired from St. Regis Paper Co. “Uncle Louis” “Papa” and “Jones” as he was so beautifully called by many was a loving husband, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Corrine, daughter Carolyn Louise, and sisters, Lillian, Hattie, Pecola and Athalia.
He is survived by his daughter, Faye B. Eley, one granddaughter, Carolyn A. Eley, one great-grandson, Christopher L. Eley, all of Franklin; one sister, Addie Wilson, Suffolk, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
A service was held Monday at New Mount Zion Baptist Church, with the pastor, Bishop D. Stefn Adams Sr., delivering the eulogy.
Burial was in Southview Cemetery.
Wm. M. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home, Franklin, was in charge of arrangements.
