NEWPORT NEWS—Evangelist Thelma Hopson died Oct. 24, 2008.
She began her life on March 2, 1922, and was the last surviving child of the late Sellie and Hattie (Elner) Smith and the stepdaughter of Emmitt Artis.
Survivors include her loving children, Barbara Hopson of the home, John Thomas Artis of Orange, N.J., the Rev. Bertha L. Kornegay of Suffolk, Evangelist Corliss Singletary of Fayetteville, N.C., Carolyn Moore of Hampton and Cleo Boykins of Newport News; a sister, Roxanne Walton of Carrsville; 25 grandchildren; 21 plus great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.
A viewing will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home, with the family receiving friends from 5 to 6 p.m.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Six House Inc., 2003 Kecoughtan Road, Hampton.
The Hopson family is receiving services of comfort at Nickelson-Cummings Funeral Home.
