PORTSMOUTH—Elsie Bailey McCaskill, 98, formerly of Chesapeake, died Oct. 20, 2008, in Heritage Hall Healthcare & Rehab Center, Leesburg.
Born June 22, 1910 in Newsoms, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Lillian Whitley Bailey.
Mrs. McCaskill was predeceased in death by her husband of 49 years, Winfred C. McCaskill; one sister, Audrey Culpepper; five brothers, Irvin, Reuben, Ray, Garnet and Vallon Bailey.
Survivors include a daughter, Joan McCaskill Kemper of Leesburg; a sister, Effie Clement of Ivor; and a brother, Rollis Bailey and wife Elsie of Chesapeake; and many nieces and nephews.
She was a retired florist and former owner/operator of Bailey’s Florist, family-owned since 1926, in Portsmouth.
After retirement and moving to Leesburg, She continued her love of flowers and joy they gave her at the former Leesburg Florist and in the flower section at Ben Franklin.
She always said she never worked a day in her life, but was just enjoying her hobby instead. She was a member of Loudoun Baptist Temple in Leesburg.
A service was held Friday in the funeral home chapel of Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth, with pastors John Kemper and Eugene Nichols officiating.
Interment followed in Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth.
