Sunday’s spring community concert a must-see

To the Editor:

Thanks to all who have attended past Community Choir concerts; we hope you will be able to come and hear us sing for you again this coming Sunday.

And we hope that many more will come as well for an enjoyable hour of music starting at 5 p.m. We are a small group this season, but we have great heart, and the music is wonderful.

Our community choir is just what it’s called — a choir made up of everyday people from all parts of our geographic and working community who like to sing.

You might know some of us: Vivian, Sarah, Ted, Miss Hattie, Jeff, Cathy, Blaine.

A few are trained in music, some are quite skilled, many sing in church choirs and some of us participate because we can carry a tune and read music okay, but basically just like to sing! No try-outs required to join.

We’re older, young enough to be in high school, and everything in between. Altogether we comprise a varied group with a common goal of giving the Franklin community and surrounding area a pleasant musical experience twice a year.

This season’s program has something for pretty much everyone: American folk music, spirituals, “Fiddler on the Roof” show tunes, gospel music. Come hear us sing “River in Judea,” “Barn Dance,” “Pacem,” “The Glorious Medley,” “He Never Failed Me Yet” and more.

Plus, we have choir soloists Patricia Ona and Sarah Mason, a guest violinist, Elizabeth Mason, and guest soloist, Rev. Tom Baynham, with a deep, rich voice.

As always, we are led by Rev. Steve Gibson and accompanied by Mrs. Jane Gibson.

As a member of the Franklin Community Choir, I would like to take this opportunity to ask area ministers and community leaders to help spread the word about our Spring Concert on April 25.

In fact, please come yourselves and bring some family and/or friends. The concert will be held in Franklin Baptist Church on High Street and will begin at 5 p.m. Admission is free.

Our choir is made up of individuals from many area churches, so it would be truly wonderful to have a “great ecumenical audience!” And would our choir ever love to see a full house.

See you Sunday.
