James A. Walker Sr.

Mr. James A. Walker Sr. of Gloucester County, Va., departed this life to claim his eternal reward on January 18, 2012.

He was born in Southampton County, Va., on February 1, 1938.

James graduated from Southampton Training School and was an honorary Theta Delta Chi member at the College of William & Mary, Williamsburg, Va.

He retired from the Newport News Shipyard after 25 years of service.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Cora Lee Walker; and his siblings John D. Walker and Douglas Walker.

He is survived by his wife, Joann Shearin-Walker; children, Vanessa Walker Cotmon and her husband, John, Lenora Patrick and her special friend, David, James Walker Jr., Johnathan Walker and his wife, Gina, Benjamin Walker, Sherrod Walker and his wife, Bridgette, and Troy Walker and his wife, Moui; stepchildren, James Shearin and his wife, Elizabeth, and Priscilla Abrera; siblings Pamela Walker, Mary Stephens and her husband, Joe, Michael R. Walker and his wife, Dorothy, Edith Evans and her husband, Leroy, Addie Walker, Cora Lee Walker and Gabriel Walker; a grandson he raised, Stephen Abrera; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and many other relatives.

A homegoing service was held Saturday, January 22, 2012, at 1 p.m. at the J.K. Redmond Funeral Home, Shacklefords, Va.

The interment was in Windsor Gardens Cemetery and Mausoleum, Dutton, Va.
