SHS beats Windsor in softball

Southampton High School beat Windsor 8-6 in girls’ softball action Thursday.
Janie Young got the pitching win for the Lady Indians, striking out eight and allowing five hits.
Carla Mathews led the winners offensively with three hits, while Megan Revelle, Brandie Hunt, Young, Marisa Cabel and Candace Earls had two hits each. Reginia Artis and Leah Burgess added one hit each.
Coach Susan Melbye’s SHS squad hosts rival Franklin today and opens Southside District play Tuesday at Bluestone. This is the school’s first season in the Southside District after many years of competing in the Bay Rivers District.
