LETTER: Do what is right for our country

To the Editor:

I am a retired, 100% disabled Vietnam veteran. I was saddened by a recent article in the AARP Bulletin titled “Fraud Against Vets and Military Families Soars”. The Federal Trade Commission documented $267 million in losses by former and present Armed Forces members in past years, up from $122 million in 2020. The statistics were included in the FTC’s annual “Consumer Sentinel Network Report” issue in late February.

On another note, I am also very disappointed in the Democrats as I watch them totally disrespect their chain of command. Everyone who has served this country took an oath to defend it from any enemies, foreign or domestic. Urging a sitting president to step down is totally wrong. President Biden should be treated with all the respect a man in his position deserves. Democrats should support and help one another, especially during difficult times. No one has a good day every day. Consider how the Republicans stood by and supported Mitch McConnell, who had several black-out episodes during interviews. They did not turn on him nor disgrace him or his capability to govern or serve. Now Ms. Disney, with all her wealth, wants to withhold contributions unless President Biden steps down.

Our country should be behind President Biden. We should work towards effective leadership, not creating chaos and divisions that send confusing messages to our younger generations and messages of vulnerability to other countries. Do what is right for our country.
