Riverdale Elementary School recently announced ChiKita Peterson is the 2023 Teacher of the Year. Peterson currently teaches third grade reading and has been instructing students for 10 years. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in

Interdisciplinary Studies from Old Dominion University in 2012. She has been teaching at Riverdale for six years and serves as a member of the Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) Team. Peterson is a lead sponsor for Riverdale’s National Beta Club and is instrumental in the implementation of the club’s activities. Peterson says her greatest contribution in education is inspiring and teaching the young minds that walk into her classroom each day.
